integratedmanagementmoduleII(IMM2).TheIMM2cantakecontrolofthesharedserialporttoredirect
serialtraffic,usingSerialoverLAN(SOL).

theseconnectors.
•Ethernetconnectors:Useeitheroftheseconnectorstoconnecttheservertoanetwork.Whenyouuse
theEthernet1connector,thenetworkcanbesharedwiththeIMM2throughasinglenetworkcable.
•NMIbutton:Pressthisbuttontoforceanonmaskableinterrupttothemicroprocessor.Itallowsyouto
bluescreentheserverandtakeamemorydump(usethisbuttononlywhendirectedbytheIBMservice
support).Youmighthavetouseapenortheendofastraightenedpapercliptopressthebutton.
Serverpowerfeatures
Whentheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnot
run,andallcorelogicexceptfortheIntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2)isshutdown.
However,theservercanrespondtorequestsfromIntegratedManagementModuleII(IMM2),suchasa
remoterequesttoturnontheserver.Thepower-onLEDflashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedto
acpowerbutisnotturnedon.
Turningontheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnontheserver.
Approximately5secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,oneormorefansmightstartrunning
toprovidecoolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopowerandthepower-onbuttonLEDwillblinkquickly.
Approximately1to3minutesaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,thepower-controlbuttonbecomes
active(thepower-onLEDwillblinkslowly),andoneormorefansmightstartrunningtoprovidecoolingwhile
theserverisconnectedtopower.Youcanturnontheserverbypressingthepower-controlbutton.
Theservercanalsobeturnedoninanyofthefollowingways:
•Ifapowerfailureoccurswhiletheserveristurnedon,theserverwillrestartautomaticallywhenpower
isrestored.
•IfyouroperatingsystemsupportstheWakeonLANfeature,theWakeonLANfeaturecanturnonthe
server.
Note:When4GBormoreofmemory(physicalorlogical)isinstalled,somememoryisreservedforvarious
systemresourcesandisunavailabletotheoperatingsystem.Theamountofmemorythatisreservedfor
systemresourcesdependsontheoperatingsystem,theconfigurationoftheserver,andtheconfigured
PCIoptions.
