Lenovo System x3250 M4 - Removing the Optional DVD Drive

Attention:Toavoiddamagetotheharddiskdriveconnectors,makesurethattheservertopcoverisin
placeandfullyclosedwheneveryouinstallorremoveaharddiskdrive.
Step1.Makesurethattheservertopcoverisinplaceandfullyclosed.
Step2.Removethefillerpanelfromtheemptydrivebay.Keepthefillerpanelinasafeplace.
Step3.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthedrivetoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
server;then,removethedrivefromthepackageandplaceitonastatic-protectivesurface.
Step4.Installtheharddiskdriveinthedrivebay:

a.Makesurethatthedrivetrayhandleisopen.
b.Removethefillerpanelfromthebay.
c.Alignthedrivewiththeguiderailsinthebay.
d.Gentlypushthedriveintothebayuntilthedrivestops.
e.Pushthetrayhandletotheclosed(locked)position.
f.hecktheharddiskdrivestatusLEDtomakesurethattheharddiskdriveisoperatingcorrectly.
IftheyellowharddiskdrivestatusLEDforadriveislitcontinuously,thatdriveisfaultyand
mustbereplaced.IfthegreenharddiskdriveactivityLEDisflashing,thedriveisbeing
accessed.
Note:IftheserverisconfiguredforRAIDoperationusingaServeRAIDadapter,youmight
havetoreconfigureyourdiskarraysafteryouinstallharddiskdrives.SeetheServeRAID
adapterdocumentationforadditionalinformationaboutRAIDoperationandcomplete
instructionsforusingtheServeRAIDadapter.
Step5.Ifyouareinstallingadditionalhot-swapharddiskdrives,dosonow.
Ifyouhavereplacedaservercomponentorinstalledanoptionaldeviceintheserver,youneedtoreconnect
thepowercordsandallexternalcables,andturnontheserverandperipheraldevices.
RemovingtheoptionalDVDdrive
UsethisinformationtoremovetheDVDdrive.

Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoturnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,
anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
