Attention:ToavoidbreakingtheretainingclipsordamagingtheDIMMconnectors,handlethe
clipsgently.
Ifyouareinstructedtoreturntheservercomponentoroptionaldevice,followallpackaginginstructions,
anduseanypackagingmaterialsforshippingthataresuppliedtoyou.

ThefollowingnotesdescribethetypesofDIMMsthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthatyou
mustconsiderwhenyouinstallDIMMs.
•ConfirmthattheserversupportstheDIMMthatyouareinstalling(seehttp://www.lenovo.com/
serverproven/).
•WhenyouinstallorremoveDIMMs,theserverconfigurationinformationchanges.Whenyourestartthe
server,thesystemdisplaysamessagethatindicatesthatthememoryconfigurationhaschanged.You
canusetheSetuputilitytoviewtheserverconfigurationinformation,see“UsingtheSetuputility”on
page64
formoreinformation.
•Theserversupportsonlyindustry-standarddouble-data-rate3(DDR3),1333or1600MHz,PC3L-12800
(single-rankordual-rank),unbufferedorsynchronousdynamicrandom-accessmemory(SDRAM)dual
inlinememorymodules(DIMMs)witherrorcorrectingcode(ECC).
•Theserversupportsamaximumoffoursingle-rankordual-rankunbufferedDIMMs.
•ThemaximumoperatingspeedoftheserverisdeterminedbytheslowestDIMMintheserver.
•IfyouinstallapairofDIMMsinDIMMconnectors1and3,thesizeandspeedoftheDIMMsthatyou
installinDIMMconnectors1and3mustmatcheachother.However,theydonothavetobethesame
sizeandspeedastheDIMMsthatareinstalledinDIMMconnectors2and4.
•YoucanusecompatibleDIMMsfromvariousmanufacturersinthesamepair.
•ThespecificationsofaDDR3DIMMareonalabelontheDIMM,inthefollowingformat.
