Thischapterprovidesdetailedinstructionsforinstallingoptionalhardwaredevicesintheserver.

Important:Tohelpensurethatthedevicesthatyouinstallworkcorrectlyanddonotintroduceproblems,
observethefollowingprecautions.
Step1.Makesurethattheserverandtheinstalledfirmwarelevelssupportthedevicesthatyouare
installing.Ifnecessary,updatetheUEFIandIMM2firmwareandanyotherfirmwarethatis
storedonthesystemboard.Forinformationaboutwherefirmwareisstoredintheserver,see

Step2.Usethebestpracticestoapplycurrentfirmwareanddevice-driverupdatesforthe
serverandoptionaldevices.TodownloadtheFirmwareUpdateGuidesdocument,goto

Step3.Beforeyouinstalloptionalhardwaredevices,makesurethattheserverisworkingcorrectly.Start
theserverandmakesurethattheoperatingsystemstarts,ifanoperatingsystemisinstalled,or
thata19990305errorcodeisdisplayed,indicatingthatanoperatingsystemwasnotfoundbut
theserverisotherwiseworkingcorrectly.Iftheserverisnotworkingcorrectly,see“RunningDSA

forinformationabouthowtorundiagnostics.
Step4.Followtheinstallationproceduresinthischapterandusethecorrecttools.Incorrectlyinstalled
devicescancausesystemfailurebecauseofdamagedpinsinsocketsorconnectors,loose
cabling,orloosecomponents.

SystemAnalysis(DSA)stresstest.
Inadditiontotheinstructionsinthischapterforinstallingoptionalhardwaredevices,updatingfirmwareand
devicedrivers,andcompletingtheinstallation,IBMBusinessPartnersmustalsocompletethefollowing
steps:
1.Afteryouhaveconfirmedthattheserverstartscorrectlyandrecognizesthenewlyinstalleddevicesand
thatnoerrorLEDsarelit,runtheDynamicSystemAnalysis(DSA)stresstest.Forinformationabout
usingDSA,see“IBMDynamicSystemAnalysis”onpage98.
2.Shutdownandrestarttheservermultipletimestoensurethattheserveriscorrectlyconfiguredand
functionscorrectlywiththenewlyinstalleddevices.
3.SavetheDSAlogasafileandsendittoIBM.Forinformationabouttransferringdataandlogs,see
“HowtosendDSAdata”onpage580
.
4.Toshiptheserver,repackageitintheoriginalundamagedpackingmaterialandobserveIBMprocedures
forshipping.
