Step5.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheDIMMtoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,removetheDIMMfromthepackage.
Step6.TurntheDIMMsothatthealignmentslotaligncorrectlywiththealignmenttab.
Step7.InserttheDIMMintotheconnectorbyaligningtheedgesoftheDIMMwiththeslotsattheendsof
theDIMMconnector.
Step8.FirmlypresstheDIMMstraightdownintotheconnectorbyapplyingpressureonbothendsofthe
DIMMsimultaneously.TheretainingclipssnapintothelockedpositionwhentheDIMMisfirmly
seatedintheconnector.
Note:IfthereisagapbetweentheDIMMandtheretainingclips,theDIMMhasnotbeencorrectly
inserted;opentheretainingclips,removetheDIMM,andthenreinsertit.
Step9.Reconnectanycablethatyouremoved.
Step10.Reinstalltheairbaffleifitwasremovedbefore(see“Replacingtheairbaffle”onpage135).
Step11.Reinstallthecover(see“Replacingthecover”onpage132).
Ifyouhavereplacedaservercomponentorinstalledanoptionaldeviceintheserver,youneedtoreconnect
thepowercordsandallexternalcables,andturnontheserverandperipheraldevices.

Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoturnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,
anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserverispowered-on
mightcausetheservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,
alwaysuseanelectrostatic-dischargewriststraporothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidethe
serverwiththepoweron.
