General operating hazards [4.2.e][4.2.b]
• EnsurethatthePTOshield(1)isinplaceandthatthe
cap(2)isfittedwhenthePTOdrivelineisnotinuse
(Fig.2-32).
• Before connecting, disconnecting, cleaning or
adjusting implements driven by the power take-off,
disengagethePTO,turntheengineoff,removethe
ignitionkeyand makesure that thePTOshaftisat
standstill(Fig.2-33).
• EnsurethatallthePTOdrivelineguardsareinplace
andobserveallsafetysigns(Fig.2-33).
• Makesurethateveryonestandsclearofthetractor
before engaging the PTO. During stationary use of
yourtractor, alwaysshiftthegearlever,thereverse
shuttleandtherangestoneutral,engagetheparking
brakeandsecurethewheelsoftractorandimplement
withwoodenwedgesorchocks.
• Whenworkingwithimplementspoweredbypower
take-off,neverleavethedriver’sseatunlessthePTO
is disengaged, the first gear and the parking brake
are engaged, the engine is off and the ignition key
removed.Asanalternative,ifthetractoristobeused
asafixedpowerunit,beforeleavingthetractorshift
the gear to neutral, engage the parking brake and
makesuretherearenopeoplewithintheoperating
rangeofthemachine.
• DONOTusePTOadaptors,reducersorextensionsas
theyextendthePTOcoupleranduniversaljointout
beyondtheprotectionofferedbythePTOshield.
• Thetoplinkandliftrodsmustnotbeextendedbeyond
thepointwherethreadsbegintoshow.
DANGER: NEVER attempt to unplug the
hydraulic connections, or adjust an imple-
ment with the engine running or the PTO
drive in operation. There is a great danger of
serious or deadly injuries (Fig.2-34).
• Whenusingchemicals,carefullyfollowanydirections
fortheiruse,storageanddischarge.Alsofollowthe
directionsgivenbymanufacturersofequipmentfor
applying chemicals. Always use specific personal
safetydevicesforeachoperation.
• When operating under poor visibility conditions, or
inthedark,useyourtractor field lights and reduce
your ground speed. (DO NOTuseyourfieldlights
whentravellingonaroadwaybecauserearpointed
white lights are illegal except when reversing and
mayconfusefollowingdrivers).
• Operateyourtractorwiththewheelssetatthewidest
setting possible, consistent with the particular task
youareperforming.Toadjustwheelsettingsreferto
MaintenanceandAdjustmentsection.
• Reduce your speed when operating over rough or
slipperygroundandwhenfoliagerestrictsyourview
of hazards.
• DO NOTmakesharpturnsathighspeed.
