The specimen dimensions to be held by the standard vise are equal to or smaller than the
rectangular parallelepiped shown in Fig. 4-5.

A specimen that can be fixed in the standard vise is generally a prism, but cylindrical and
spherical specimens can also be fixed.
If a specimen is not prismatic, be sure to fix the specimen in the jaws.
The surface of the specimen must be higher than the top surface of the standard vise as shown in
Fig. 4-6.
The surface of the specimen must be parallel to the top surface of the Manual XY stage.
