4. The numeric key is displayed.
Enter the contact velocity (μm/s) and press the [ENT] button.
[CLR]: Zero-clears the contact velocity.
[ESC]: Restores the previous setting and numeric key closes.
[ENT]: Sets the contact velocity.

returns to the "MEASUREMENT" screen.
Important
· Standard value defined in ASTM E384 6.1.1.2 ⇒Contact velocity: 15 to 70μm/s
· Standard value defined in JIS Z 2244 ⇒Contact velocity: 200μm/s or less
(In consideration for the test result influenced by the impact caused by the contact of
indenter and specimen, 60μm/s or less is applicable for HM-220A as a setting
value.)
· In the case of executing a test with low test force, it might arise [ error : 140 ]
occasionally.
When you encounter this situation, retry the test with slowly approaching speed.
5.6.5 The function to guide the condition settings
The test condition can be calculated based on JIS Z 2244. Enter the assumed hardness and
thickness values (μm) for a sheet of film or a thin specimen to be tested.
Calculate the appropriate test force and obtained diagonal length (μm) of the indentation.
t [mm]: Specimen thickness
d [mm]: Length of diagonal line
h [mm]: Depth of indentation
