Introduction
About Aspire Networking
Networking ◆ 3
Aspire Requirements
There are two methods available for Networking connections as shown in following table.
Aspire S Requirements
● IP Networking is supported by the Aspire S KSU.
● An ENTU LAN Connection PCB is required with the VOIPU PCB. The system will not start
up if the ENTU is not installed.
● A VOIPU PCB with an ethernet connection to the ENTU PCB is required for connection.
Aspire NTCPU Requirements
● Networking is not supported on the 64-port Basic NTCPU (P/N 0891002).
● A Feature Upgrade PAL chip (P/N 0891039) is required for the Basic NTCPU or an Enhanced
NTCPU (P/N 0891038) can be used to enable Networking.
● A PRIU (Þrmware 2.0 or higher), BRIU (Þrmware 2.6 or higher), or VOIPU PCB with an eth-
ernet connection to the NTCPU is required for connection.
Interface Description Comments
ISDN
(PRI ISDN
available with
Aspire M/L/
XL Only)
Using Q.931-based proprietary
protocol, Basic Rate Interface
and Primary Rate Interfaces are
available.
• A PRIU or BRIU PCB is required for each
network connection.
• A minimum version of Þrmware is required
for the ISDN PCB.
BRIU PCB - Firmware 2.6
PRIU PCB - Firmware 2.0
• Using ISDN Networking the system provides
up to 256 B-channel ports which can be used
for Networking.
• A PRIU circuit will take 24 ports and each
BRI circuit will take 2 ports.
• These ISDN Networking ports are indepen-
dent of the trunk and station ports available
on the system.
VoIP Using H.323 protocol for voice
transmit protocol.
• A VOIPU PCB is required, as well as an
ethernet connection to the NTCPU.
• No speciÞc Þrmware version required.
• Using IP Networking the maximum quantity
of simultaneous calls is limited by the avail-
ability of resources on the VOIPU PCB’s
installed. A maximum of sixteen 16VOIPU
PCB’s can be installed each with a 16 port
expansion daughter card giving a maximum
of 512 speech channels (this number depends
on the system and the NTCPU type).
• The maximum quantity of calls may also be
reduced by the compression mode (CODEC
type) of the VOIPU PCBs, this is selectable
by the installer in Program 84-12-28. Refer
to the Aspire IP Manual for further detail.
