Slide Scanner Repair Manual Functional Description
Upon command from the host computer, a scan operation is initiated. Once the scan is initiated,
the microcontroller on the main controller PC board coordinates all scanner functions (digitizing
input image data, color correcting, and sharpening the input image data, etc.) and then transmits
the image to the host computer.
Scanner Electronics
The slide scanner electronic's consists of the following:
• Power Supply PC Board
• AC Inverter PC Board
• Image Sensor PC Board
• Main Controller PC Board
Power Supply PC Board
The power supply PC board distributes regulated DC power to the slide scanner electronics
(PC boards, lamp, LED's, and stepper motors). A low profile switching power supply is used to
generate the necessary regulated power to operate the slide scanner.
The following paragraphs describes how the operating power is generated and how the
different voltage levels are achieved. Refer to simplified block diagram (Figure 2-3) and the
power supply schematic and wiring diagram in Section 6 of this Repair Manual when reading the
description of the DC power distribution.
The slide scanner operates from domestic or international commercial AC power applied
through the Power On/Off (0/1) switch located on the slide scanner back plate.
Note: The slide scanner meets domestic and international power requirements. It operates
from an AC input voltage of 90 - 260 Vac, at 47 - 63 Hz.
When the Power ON/Off (0/1) switch is set to its ON (1) position, AC power is applied through the
back plate receptacle to the switching power supply. The green Power ON LED comes on to
indicate that the slide scanner power is turned ON.
The switching power supply generates the following regulated voltages:
• + 5 Vdc (Vdd)
• + 15 Vdc (Vcc)
• - 15 Vdc (Vee)
