Slide Scanner Repair Manual Calibration and Adjustments
Filter Wheel Photo-Sensor Tab Alignment (Only for Slide Scanner with Filter Wheel)
Notes: • Filter Set Assembly w/Stepper Motor used on original SprintScan 35. Also used on
SprintScan 35 ES up to serial no. B6xxxxxxD.
• This alignment procedure must be performed each time the main controller PC
board is removed during disassembly or when it is replaced.
1. With the scanner off, manually rotate the filter wheel until its photo-sensor tab is outside the filter
wheel's photo-sensor not properly centered inside the middle of the filter wheel's photo-sensor
(U4) on the main controller PC board ( Figure 3-16) .
2. While holding the filter wheel, turn on the slide scanner. DO NOT LET GO OF THE FILTER
WHEEL.
Note: Once slide scanner is turned on, its transporter begins to cycle down and then up.
As the transporter reaches its up position, the system electronics applies pulses to
the filter wheel stepper motor. Do not panic or let go of the filter wheel.
After the system electronics stops applying pulses to the filter wheel stepper motor, the
transporter goes to its top position and then jams. This is OK. Wait until the Ready LED
indicator flashes and then release the filter wheel.
3. Manually rotate the filter wheel until its photo-sensor tab is properly centered inside the middle of
the filter wheel's photo-sensor (U4) on the main controller PC board. Make sure that the bottom of
the filter wheel is perpendicular to the base of the chassis assembly. (Filter wheel should freely
rotate 360
o
without any interference.)
4. Turn the slide scanner off and then on. Once the slide scanner completes its power up cycle, the
filter wheel's photo-sensor tab should be properly positioned (top edge-to-top edge) in the filter
wheel's photo-sensor (U4) on the main controller PC board.
5. If the filter wheel's photo-sensor tab is not properly centered inside the middle of the filter wheel's
photo-sensor U4 on the main controller PC board, repeat this alignment procedure.
Note: If the filter wheel can not be properly centered inside the middle of the filter wheel's
photo-sensor ( U4) on the main controller PC board after repeating this procedure, loosen
the nut that secures the filter wheel to the shaft of its stepper motor and then manually
align it. Tighten the nut.
