•
You are using an Allen Bradley control system with “RSLogix 5000” control soft‐
ware V22 or higher (or another control that facilitates integration using an EDS
file).
•
The MLG-2 has an IP address (see "IP address of the MLG-2", page 74).
•
The EDS file has been integrated into the control software using the Rockwell
Hardware Installation Tool.
Setting up communication

Right-click on the Ethernet icon and select the New Module… command.

The Select Module Type dialog box opens.

Select the MLG-2 on the Catalog index card.
b
Click OK.

The Module Properties [module name] dialog box opens.

Enter a name (freely selectable) in the Name field and the IP address defined for
the MLG-2 in the IP Address field.

In the Module Definition area, the input only default connection (109) is shown as
Connections. This is instance 109 of the assembly object.

If you want to change this instance, click on Change….

Select, e.g., Input Only 101.
b
Under Size, select the data format DINT.
Checking communication
The data received by the control from the MLG-2 can be displayed in order to check that
communication between the control and the MLG-2 is working correctly.

In the Controller Organizer, open the Controller Test Setup, Controller Tags folder.
b
In the Name column of the Controller Tags, open the node with the name previously
entered for the MLG-2.
10.3.3.3 IP address of the MLG-2
The IP address of the MLG-2 can be assigned as follows:
•
Using SOPAS ET
•
Via DHCP
Without DHCP server
If you ha
ve entered a fixed IP address, then you must use this IP address in the control.
Assigning the IP address via DHCP
If your control has a DHCP server, you can assign an IP address to the MLG-2 via this
DHCP server.

Start up the BOOTP/DHCP server (usually in the Start menu of your PC/notebook
under Rockwell Software, BOOTP-DHCP Server, BOOTP-DHCP Server).
b
The MLG-2 appears as a node in the program window of the BOOTP/DHCP server;
its MAC address is also displayed, but not its assigned IP address.
b
Double-click to open the MLG-2 in the BOOTP/DHCP server.
b
In the IP Address field, enter a valid and available address and click OK.
b
Click on Clear History.

After a while, the MLG-2 appears with the entered IP address under Request History,
as well as under Relation List.
