24.10 Resetting a short-circuit
General
The operating personnel can reset a pending short-circuit error without having to
restart the entire line. A line restart generally takes longer than resetting a short-
circuit. You will find more information on restarting a detector line in chapter
'Restarting the detector line [ 80]'.
Resetting a short
-
circuit on a stub requires all line devices
after the short
-
circuit to
be restarted and for the order of the line devices to be reentered on the stub. This
is why it is generally quicker to restart a stub than to reset the short-circuit.
When resetting a short-circuit, the system closes the open line separators before
and after the location of the preceding short-circuit, reconnecting the resulting
stubs in a loop. A prerequisite for this is that the service personnel have already
rectified the short-circuit. If the short-circuit is still present after resetting the
detector line, then the line separators of the line devices will reopen and the short-
circuit error will remain.
In the event of a short
-
circuit at the terminal, the line separator of the station and
the line separator of the first line device on the detector line isolates the short-
circuit.
