8.4.2 Installing a new Microsoft® Windows® operating system
The Intel® RST memory driver, which supports the Intel CPU platform of the 12th generation
and higher, is not yet available in the Windows® operating system. To recognize all available
drives (SATA and/or NVMe), the driver must be installed during the installation process.
Requirement
• USB flash drive (supplied if ordered) with software and tools to restore the installed
Microsoft® Windows® operating system
Procedure
1. Connect the USB flash drive with software and tool for restoring the installed Microsoft®
Windows® operating system to the device.
2. Navigate to DocuAndDrivers > Drivers > RST > F6.
3. Copy the "VMD" folder to the connected USB flash drive.
4. Start the installation process.
5. As soon as a message appears stating that no drives were found, click "Load driver".
6. When you are asked for the installation medium, select the "VMD" folder that you previously
copied to the connected USB flash drive.
7. Select the driver "VMD\iaStorVD.inf" (Controller or Manager).
8. Select the drive for installing the operating system and complete the installation process.
8.4.3 Installing software and drivers
Requirement
• All files for installing software and drivers are on a bootable USB flash drive.
The following methods can be used to obtain a bootable USB flash drive containing these
files:
– You have ordered a bootable USB flash drive to accompany the delivery of the device.
– You create this bootable USB flash drive yourself.
Creating a bootable USB flash drive yourself
Requirement
You know the serial number and article number of the device for which you want to install
software or drivers. You can find information on this under "Device identification data
(Page 53)".
1. On the Internet, go to "Online Service Delivery Portal
(https://www.automation.siemens.com/swdl/register/ipc)".
2. Log in with your credentials or register.
3. Enter the serial number and article number of the device for which you want to install
software or drivers.
