8.15 Radar: MARPA
MARPA (Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) is a powerful tracking
system used to define and track a maximum of 10 radar targets.
MARPA can also calculate data relating to each target.
Effective MARPA operation relies on good quality heading data.
You're recommended to use a good quality heading sensor. Poor
quality heading data will result in inaccurate data calculation and
unreliable target tracking.
Note: Certain conditions may affect the effective operation of
MARPA. These conditions include poor radar adjustment,
weather conditions and the sea state, the type and quantity of
radar echoes on the screen and the relative movement of your
vessel and other targets.
MARPA processing is performed by the radar processor, not the
display unit, so it is important that the radar processor software
supports MARPA. If it doesn't, contact your dealer for a software
upgrade for your radar processor.
