Preventdamagewhenclampingthehydrauliccylinderintoavise;
clampontheclevisonly.
2.Mountclevisendofsteeringcylinderinavice.Removetheretainingring.
3.Removeplugsfromports.Extractshaft,cylindergland,andpistonby
carefullytwistingandpullingontheshaft.
IMPORTANT
Donotclampvisejawsagainsttheshaftsurface.Protectshaft
surfacebeforemountinginavice.
4.Mountshaftsecurelyinavisebyclampingontheclevisoftheshaft.Remove
locknutandpistonfromtheshaft.Slidecylinderglandofftheshaft.
5.Removethewearring,sealandO–ringfromthepiston.
6.Removeback−upring,O–rings,rodsealanddustsealfromthecylinder
gland.
AssemblingtheSteeringCylinder
Carefullyinspectinternalsurfaceofcylinderbarrelfordamage(deepscratches,
out−of−round,etc.).Inspectpistonrodforstraightness,excessivescoring,and
pittingorwear.Inspectpistonandheadforevidenceofexcessivescoringand
pittingorwear.Replaceentirecylinderassemblyifnecessary.
1.Makesureallpartsarecleanbeforereassembly.
2.CoatnewO–rings,wearring,seal,rodseal,andback−upringwithclean
hydraulicuid.
A.Installseal,wearingandO–ringtothepiston.
B.Installdustseal,rodseal,O–ringsandback−upringtothecylindergland.
IMPORTANT
Donotclampvisejawsagainsttheshaftsurface.Protectshaft
surfacebeforemountinginavice.
3.Mountshaftsecurelyinavisebyclampingontheclevisoftheshaft.
A.Coatshaftwithalightcoatofcleanhydraulicuid.
B.Slidecylinderglandassemblyontotheshaft.Installpistonandlocknut
ontotheshaft.Torquenutfrom54N·m(40ft−lb).
C.Removeshaftfromthevise.
