Theengineoilpressureswitchislocatedontheenginebelowthealternator
(Figure127).Theoilpressureswitchisanormallyclosedswitchthatopenswith
pressure.Theoilpressureswitchshouldopenatapproximately8PSI.
Iflowengineoilpressureallowstheoilpressureswitchtocloseduringengine
operation,theengineoilpressurelightshouldilluminate.
IMPORTANT
Iftheoilpressureindicatorlightisilluminatedwiththeengine
running,shutofftheengineimmediately.Checktheindicatorlight,
circuitwiring,pressureswitch,andenginelubricationsystemto
identifythecauseoftheilluminatedindicatorlight.
Testing
Note:RefertoEngineServiceManualforinformationregardingengine
lubricationsystemandtesting.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,settheparking
brake,andshutofftheengine.
2.TurnthekeyswitchtotheONposition.Theoilpressureindicatorlightonthe
controlpanelshouldbeilluminated.
3.Iftheindicatorlightisnotilluminated:
A.Unlatchthehoodandraiseit.
B.Locatetheengineoilpressureswitchontheengineanddisconnectthe
wireharnessconnectorfromtheswitch.
C.Connectamultimeter(ohmssetting)acrosstheswitchharnessconnector
terminalstocheckthecontinuityoftheswitch:
•Withtheengineshutoff,thereshouldbenocontinuitybetweenthe
switchharnessterminals.
•Withtheenginerunning,thereshouldbecontinuitybetweentheswitch
harnessterminals.
4.Ifthetestingdeterminesthattheoilpressureswitchisnotoperatingcorrectly,
checkthepressureswitchand/orpressureswitchharnessforcontinuity.
Repairorreplacethecomponentsasnecessary.
