ThefuelstopsolenoidusedontheReelmastermustbeenergizedforthediesel
enginetorun.Thesolenoidismountedtotheinjectionpumpontheengine
(Figure138).
Thefuelstopsolenoidincludestwocoilsforoperation:thepullcoilandthehold
coil.WhenthekeyswitchisturnedtoSTART,thefuelstopsolenoidisinitially
energizedandthepullcoilretractsthesolenoidplunger.Oncetheplunger
isretracted,theholdcoilwillkeepitretractedforcontinuedengineoperation.
Whenthesolenoidisde-energized,theplungerextendstoshutofffuelsupply
totheenginecausingtheenginetostoprunning.Thefuelstopsolenoidis
groundedthroughthesolenoidhousing.
TestingtheFuelStopSolenoid(InPlace)
Note:Beforetakingthesmallresistancereadingswithadigitalmultimeter,short
themultimetertestleadstogether.Themeterwilldisplayasmallresistancevalue
(usually0.5ohmsorless).Thisresistanceisbecauseoftheinternalresistance
ofthemultimeterandtestleads.Subtractthisvaluefromthemeasuredvalueof
thecomponentyouaretesting.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,settheparking
brake,shutofftheengine,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Unlatchthehoodandraiseit.
3.Locatethefuelstopsolenoidontheengineanddisconnectthewireharness
connectorfromthesolenoid.
