switch.IfthebacklapswitchisintheONposition,theSCMinbacklapinputLED
shouldbeilluminated.
Testing
1.Parkvehicleonalevelsurface,stopengine,applyparkingbrakeandremove
keyfromkeyswitch.
2.Beforeyoudisconnectthebacklapswitchfortesting,ensurethatyoutest
theswitchanditscircuitwiringasaSCMinput;refertoStandardControl
Module(SCM)(page6–45).
3.IftheSCMveriesthatthebacklapswitchandcircuitwiringarefunctioning
correctly,nofurtherswitchtestingisnecessary.
4.IftheSCMdeterminesthatthebacklapswitchandcircuitwiringarenot
functioningcorrectly,proceedwiththefollowingswitchtestingprocedure.
5.Getaccesstoreeldrivemanifold.Disconnecttheharnesselectrical
connectorfromthebacklapswitch.
6.Checkthecontinuityoftheswitchbyconnectingamultimeter(ohmssetting)
acrosstheswitchconnectorterminals.
7.WiththekeyswitchintheOFFposition,turnthebacklaplevertothebacklap
positionwhilewatchingthemultimeter.Continuityshouldbemadeasthe
switchcloses.
8.Turnthebacklaplevertothemowpositionwhilewatchingthemultimeter.
Continuityshouldbebrokenastheswitchopens.
9.Ifbacklapswitchisfaulty,replaceswitch.Makesurethatdowelandballare
placedinthemanifoldportbeforeinstallingnewswitchinmanifold.Torque
switchto27N-m(20ft-lb).
10.Ifthebacklapswitchtestscorrectlyandacircuitproblemstillexists,check
wireharness(seeElectricalSchematicandWireHarnessDrawingsin
AppendixA(pageA–1)).
11.Aftertestingiscompleted,connectharnesselectricalconnectortothe
backlapswitchandcloseaccesspanel.
