5.25 L70-band Down Converter
5.25.1 Overview
The L70-band Down Converter converts L-band signals received from
Teleport RF to 70 MHz for processing by the MCD. The unit provides
additional gain to bring receive signals to an appropriate level and
provides filtering to reduce the dynamic range of the received signal.
The unit is 1U high and is designed for installation in a 19” rack. It
supports an L-band input range between 950 and 2150 MHz. There is
programmable cable slope compensation and gain adjustment is in 0.2
dB steps from 15 to 45 dB.
The unit uses an on-board microcontroller that can be controlled by a
front panel keyboard (
Figure 5-63) or remotely over the Ethernet
through the Remote connector (J6) on the rear panel (
Figure 5-64).

5.25.1.1 FRONT PANEL OPERATIONS
A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Light Emitting Diode (LED)
indicators have been organized such that important information is
available at a glance. The keyboard is divided into functional groups to
allow an operator to easily change any parameter from the front panel.
The green “POWER” LED is lit when power is on.
The red “STATUS” LED indicates an active alarm. The “STATUS” LED
lights amber when no alarms are active but alarms have been recorded
in the log. This LED does not light when no alarms are active and the
log has been cleared.
The green “REMOTE” LED is lit when the unit is under remote control
and is off while the unit is under local control.
