REMOVING THE SWINGARM
1. Stand the veh icle on a level surface.

AwARNING
Securely support the vehicle so that there is
no danger of it falling over.
TIP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Place the vehicle on a suitable stand so that t he
rear wheel is elevated.
2. Remove:
• Connecting arm lower nut "1"
• Connecting arm lower bo lt
TIP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When remov ing the bo l t, ho ld the swingarm so
that it does not drop down.

3. Measu re:
• Swingarm side play
• Swingarm vertical movement

a. Measure the tightening torque of the pivot
shaft nu
t.
Pivot shaft nut
11 O Nm (11 m· kgf , 80 ft·lbf)
b. Check the sw ingarm side play "A" by moving
the swingarm from side to side.
If the swingarm has side-to-side play, check
the spacer, bearings, and dust covers.
c. Check the sw ingarm vertical movement "B"
by moving the swingarm up and down.
If the swingarm vertical movement is not
smooth or if the re is binding, check t he pivot
shaft, collar, bearings, and dust covers.

4. Remove:
• Drive chain
Re fer to "REMOVING THE DRIVE CHAIN"
on page 4-71 .
• Swingarm

CHECKING THE SWINGARM
1. Check:
• Swingarm
Bends/cracks/damage ~ Replace.
2. Check:
• Pivot shaft
Ro ll the pivot shaft on a flat su rface.
Be nds ~ Replace.

Do not attempt to straighten a bent pivot
shaft.
3. Wash:
• Pivot shaft
• Dust covers
•Co llars
• Washer

4. Check:
Recommended cleaning
solvent
Kerosene
• Dust covers "1"
• Oil seals "2"
Damage/wear ~ Replace.
