REMOVING THE CRANKSHAFT AND
BALANCER SHAFT
1. Remove:
• Balanc er shaft "1"
• Balanc er shaft journal bearings
•
Cr ankshaft as sembly "2"
• Crankshaft journal b ear ings

Identify the position of each balancer shaft jo ur -
nal bearings and crankshaft jo urnal bearin gs so
that it can be reinstalled in its original place.

CHECKING THE OIL NOZZLES

nozzles.
1. Ch ec k:
• O il nozzle "1"
Damage/wear --t Replace the oil nozzl e.
• O il passage
Obstruction --t Bl ow out with compressed air.

CHECKING THE CRANKSHAFT
1. Measure:
• Cr ankshaft runout
Out of sp ec ifi ca tion --t Replace the crank-
shaft.
Runout limit
0.030 mm (0.0012 in)

2. Check:
• Crankshaft journal surfaces
• Crankshaft pin surfaces
• Bearing surfac es
Scr at ches/wear --t R ep lace t he cr ankshaft.
3. Me asure:
• Crankshaft-journal-to-crankshaft-jour-
na l-b ear ing clearance
Out of specification --t R ep lace the cr ank-
shaft journal bearings.

Do not interchange the crankshaft journal
bearings. To obtain the correct crank-
shaft-journal - to-crankshaft-journal-bearing
clearance and prevent engine damage , the
crankshaft journal bearings must be in-
stalled in their original positions.

a. Clean the crankshaft journal bearings, crank-
shaft journal s, and bearing portions of the
crankcase.
b. Place the upper crankcase upside dow n on a
bench.
c. Install t he crankshaft journal upper bearings
"1" and the crankshaft into the upper cr ank-
c
as e.
TIP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Align the proj ec tions "a" on the crankshaft jour-
nal upper bea ri ngs with the notch es "b" in the up-
per crankcase.
