OsmoTECH PRO Multi-Sample Micro-Osmometer Service Guide
Error Possible cause/Suggested action
Out of range Low
Out of range High
Cause: The sample might be outside
the range of the instrument:
• Out of range Low indicates the
measured reading is below
-10mOsm.
• Out of range High indicates the
measured reading is above
2200mOsm.
Action:
• Confirm good pipette technique
and pipette condition
• Test a control such as Clinitrol.
• Check for particulate matter in
the sample.
Test timeout
Cause: The instrument was unable to
complete the test within the allotted
time.
Action:
• Check for particulate matter in
the sample.
• Test a control such as Clinitrol to
see if the issue persists.
• If the issue persists, the sample
might be outside the range of the
instrument.
• Confirm sample block and cooling
block are engaging (see Testing
the sample motor)
Sample tube not
detected
Cause: The sample tube was not
detected in the turntable.
Action:
• Place a sample tube in the
indicated position.
• If the sample tube is present but
not detected, try another load
position.
7.2 Errors during calibration
Error Possible cause/Suggested action
Tubes missing Action: Verify that all samples
required for calibration are loaded on
the turntable.
Wrong calibrator:
0 mOsm/kg, 50
mOsm/kg, 850
mOsm/kg, or 2000
mOsm/kg
Cause:
• Calibrator’s result is below/above
the expected range for the
calibrator group twice
• The calibration set up incorrectly
• Wrong calibration standard in the
wrong position
Action:
Follow the onscreen instructions to
set up calibration and retry
calibration (see Calibrating the
instrument).
• Use the correct calibrator.
• Positions 1-3 should consist of
850mOsm
• Positions 4-6 should consist of
50mOsm
• Positions 7-9 should consist of
either 0mOsm or 2000mOsm
• Positions 10-12 should consist of
2000mOsm (if successful
0mOsm calibration completed)
Action: Recalibrate the instrument
(see Calibrating the instrument)
Calibrator out of
range:
0mOsm/kg,
50mOsm/kg,
850mOsm/kg, or
2000mOsm/kg
Cause: Too much variation in the
replicates for the calibrator group.
Action:
• Confirm good technique and
pipette position.
• Check for particulates in sample.
• Recalibrate the instrument (see
Calibrating the instrument)
Run Data isn’t saved
in Results table
1. Cycle power on the instrument.
2. Select > Diagnostics > Events.
If the software and firmware versions
at power up are not recorded, then
the SD Card has become Read-Only.
Either the SD card or the complete
LCD Display assembly (p/n 222022R)
will have to be replaced. The SD card
is not easy to access, therefore only
Advanced Instruments-trained service
engineers should attempt to change
it.
