DCN addresses
The system has two addresses in the DCN:
• Ethernet address
• NSAP address
Ethernet address
The Ethernet address is the unique 6-byte address of a Network Element. Sometimes it
is also referred to as the hardware or physical address of the node. The Ethernet
address has only local meaning on the LAN and cannot be used for routing purposes.
It does not contain the information on where the node is in the data communications
network.
NSAP address
The Network Service Access Point (NSAP) address is used by the network protocol for
location information. The NSAP address of a node is its DCN wide identifier which
uniquely identifies the node in the network.
