Rocker Arm Assemblies

1. Check each rocker arm, at pad end and push rod end, for

uneven wear or pitting. Replace rocker arm if either con-

dition exists.

2. Measure and record rocker arm shaft diameter.

a. See Figure 3-63. Measure where shaft ﬁts in lower

rocker arm cover.

b. See Figure 3-64. Measure where rocker arm bush-

ings ride.

3. Measure and record rocker arm shaft bore diameter.

a. See Figure 3-65. Measure bore of lower rocker

cover.

b. See Figure 3-66. Measure rocker arm bushing inner

diameter.

4. Check the measurements obtained in Steps 5-6 against

the SERVICE WEAR LIMITS. Repair or replace parts

exceeding limits.

5. Assemble rocker arms and rocker arm shafts into lower

rocker cover.

6. Check end play of rocker arm with feeler gauge.

7. Replace rocker arm or lower cover or both if end play

exceeds 0.025 in. (0.635 mm).
