Coldweatherconditionsrequirespecialoperatingprocedures.Duringtheseconditionsyourmachinewillrequire
specialstart-up,warm-upandmaintenanceproceduresforthebestperformance.Propercoldweathermaintenance
willextendtheservicelifeofyourmachine.
Batteries
Cleanthebatteriesandmakesuretheyareatfullcharge.
Incoldconditionsrunthemachinelongenoughtoreturn
thechargelostbystarting.Inmostcoldconditionsthisis
about10minutes,butinextremecolditcanbe30min-
utes.
NOTE:afullychargedbatteryat-17°C(1.4°F)hasonly
40%ofthenormalstartingpower.At-29°C(-20.2°F)the
batteryhasonly18%.
Inspectthebatterycablesandterminals.Cleanthetermi-
nalsandapplyelectricalterminalsealerstopreventcor-
rosion.Seeyourdealer.
Ifwaterisaddedtothebatteriesandthetemperatureis
below0°C(32.0°F),chargethebatteriesorruntheen-
gineforapproximately2hours.Thiswillpreventbattery
freezing.
Lubricants
Followtherecommendedoilandlterservicefortheen-
gineandhydraulicsystemasshowninthismanual.Use
thecorrectviscosityoilineachcomponentfortheambient
temperaturesthemachineisoperatingin.Forextreme
coldconditions,contactyourdealerforalternativelubri-
cantsforthehydraulicandtransmissionsystems.
Fuel
Checkwithyourfuelsupplierforthecorrectcoldweather
fuel.Enginepowerwillbereducedifwaxparticlesarein
thefuellters.Somecoldweatherfuelblendsresultin
lowerenginepower.
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Coldtemperatures
cancausecondensationtoforminthefueltank.Check
anddrainthefuelpre-lterandfueltankforwaterasre-
quired.
DIESELEXHAUSTFLUID(DEF)/ADBLUE®
Duringcoldweatherconditions,itisnormalfortheDEF/
ADBLUE®tofreezeinsidethetank.TtheDEF/ADBLUE®
levelgaugemaynotdisplayanaccurateleveluntilthe
tankiscompletelythawed.
NOTICE:donotuseananti-gellingorfreezepointim-
proverinyourDEF/ADBLUE®.The32.5%solutionis
specicallydesignedtoprovidetheoptimumNO
X
reduc-
tionproperties.Anyfurtherblendingoradjustingofthe
DEF/ADBLUE®mixturewilllessenitsabilitytoperform
correctlyandmaycausedamagetotheSCRcompo-
nents.
Coolingsystem
Checkthecoolantmixturebeforeoperatingincoldtem-
peratures.Useamixtureof50%OrganicAcidT echnol-
ogy(OAT)coolantand50%water.Itisrecommendedto
usetheOATcoolantandwaterinthemachineallyear
long.
Coldtemperaturestartingaids
