User instructions specific to hazardous area installations when the equipment is
supplied to the user as an individual piece of equipment i.e. not supplied as part of
separate overall equipment
The following instructions shall accompany each product. These instructions may be
contained in a discrete section within an operation manual or similar document. The wording
and format may be altered provided the meaning remains unchanged.
The following instructions are relevant to the Intrinsic Safe Barrier Three Channel
WM046690-0001 and the Intrinsic Safe Barrier One Channel WM046690-0002
covered by certificate numbers IECEx SIR 12.0153X and Sira 12ATEX2366X.
The certification marking is as follows:
The equipment is associated apparatus for installation in a non-hazardous (safe) area. It
provides an intrinsically safe ‘ib’ output for group IIA and IIB
intrinsically safe ‘ib’ equipment
located in
The equipment is only certified for use in ambient temperatures in the range -40|C to
+
70|C and should not be used outside this range.
Installation shall be carried out in accordance with the applicable code of practice by
suitably
The equipment contains no user-replaceable parts and is not intended to be repaired by the
user. Repair of the equipment is to be carried out by the manufacturer, or their approved
agents, in accordance with the applicable code of practice.
If the equipment is likely to come into contact with aggressive substances, e.g. acidic liquids
or gases that may attack metals or solvents that may affect polymeric materials, then it is
the responsibility of the user to take suitable precautions that pre
adversely affected thus ensuring that the type of protection is not compromised.
The certificate number has an ‘X’ suffix which indicates that Special Conditions for Safe Use
apply. Those installing or inspecting this equipment must
have access to the contents of
the certificate or these instructions. The conditions listed in the certificate are reproduced
below:
The specified entity parameters of Co and Lo are applicable for the distributed
capacitance and inductance in cable. Where there is circuit capacitance and
inductance in the connected, intrinsically safe equipment (represented by Ci
and Li respectively), t
hen the effect of this capacitance and inductance in
combination shall be considered as described in clause 10.1.5.2 of EN 60079
11:2012; further guidance relating to correct installation in accordance with this
clause can be found in EN 60079-14:2008 clause 12.2.5.2.
The equipment shall be installed within an additional enclosure that provides a
minimum ingress protection of IP20 or greater depending on the intended use
and environmental conditions.
The equipment shall not be supplied or used as a general purpose stand-alone
barrier for connection to remote intrinsically safe equipment. It shall only be
connected to specific intrinsically safe equipment, typically in the form of a
separate module, located either in the same or an adjacent enclosure.
