5 Monitoring
5.1 Overview
This chapter describes alarm types, how to acknowledge alarms, and how to change alarm
displays.
5.2 Alarm Displays
An alarm is generated whenever an abnormal condition occurs.
For example, when the measurement value is above or below the acceptable range. Alarms,
are also generated when an important event occurs, such as a communications failure.
When an alarm is generated it requires some action by the operator. All other instructions
from the system are output as events.
When an alarm is issued a blinking red Alarm button in the Station window Status Zone
appears. The Status Zone also shows the description of the latest alarm that has the
highest priority (For example, if a High priority alarm comes after an Urgent priority alarm,
the High priority alarm is not displayed on the Status Zone.).
In addition, the red color used in a faceplate indicates that the point in question is the
source of an active alarm. The symbols and numerical values in other displays and pop-up
displays related to the alarming point also turn red when an alarm is on.
NOTE
The red color in the Status Zone Alarms field stays red if there are valid
alarms in the system. The color blinks until all alarms have been
acknowledged.
5.2.1 Alarm Summary Display
Alarms are listed on the Alarm Summary display, which provides a brief description of each
alarm. See Table 16.
There are several ways to access the Alarm Summary Display:
Click the Alarm Summary button on the Toolbar status line.
Click the Status line’s Alarms field - .
