Installing a Power Supply in an EX4600 Switch
Before you install a power supply in an EX4600 switch, ensure that you have taken the necessary
precauons to prevent electrostac discharge (ESD) damage (see
Prevenon of Electrostac
Discharge Damage
).
Ensure that the airow direcon of the power supply is the same as the chassis. Labels on the power
supply handle indicate the direcon of airow. See "Cooling System and Airow in an EX4600
Switch" on page 21 for more informaon.
The EX4600 is shipped from the factory with two power supplies. Each power supply is a hot-removable
and hot-insertable eld-replaceable unit (FRU) when the second power supply is installed and running.
You can install replacement power supplies in the two slots next to the fan modules without powering
o the switch or disrupng the switching funcon.
To install a power supply in an EX4600 switch (see Figure 41 on page 101):
1. Aach the ESD grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect the strap to the ESD point on the
chassis.
2. Taking care not to touch power supply components, pins, leads, or solder connecons, remove the
power supply from its bag.
CAUTION: Verify that the direcon of the arrow on the power supply handle matches
the direcon of airow in the chassis. Ensure that each power supply you install in the
chassis has the same airow direcon. If you install power supplies with two dierent
airow direcons, Junos OS raises an alarm, and the status (ALM) LED blinks amber.
