At the end press APPLY button to save calibration data. In case of pressing CANCEL button
settings will not be saved. Previous settings will remain.
Switch the unit OFF, by using esc/off button to store calibration data properly. The
calibration data will remain until next calibration procedure.
9.2.5 Final check
Go back to compass calibration page and check again corrected data for all 8 directions. The
error should now be less than 1° – 2° (better to have 1° !). If the errors are larger, then one
should search for faults in installation or in the adjustment procedure. When the final test is
satisfactory, your LX8000 is ready to calculate the wind with the compass method.
The calibration is specific for your combination of aircraft and compass, which
means you, can not transfer the compass to another aircraft while using the same
calibration values. It is recommended to repeat the calibration procedure every
year.
9.2.6 Input of local magnetic variation
The correct input of local magnetic variation is essential. Use QNH and RES menu. Wrong
magnetic variation may degrade wind calculation significantly. If auto variation is selected
the LX8000 automatically calculates magnetic variation from a mathematical model. See
chapter 5.1.1 for more details.
9.3 LX 8000 Remote control
Remote control consists of two parts:
Leather coated stick with built in electronics
Interface printed circuit board which connects wires coming out from the stick to the LX
8000 RS485 system bus
The stick is delivered in three diameters 18mm, 20mm and 24mm. LS gliders need
24mm, all other glider types will accept 20mm.
All necessary electronic is built into the top of the stick and only the wires from the control
tube to the interface unit need to be used. This solution makes the installation very easy.
Additionally two shielded cables are used for speed command key and PTT.
Don’t forget to initialize speed command input setting to TASTER (See chapter
5.1.13.1)
