Batterymaintenance
Thethreebatteriesarelocatedinsidetheenginecompart-
mentandareaccessedthroughtherearenginecompart-
mentdoor.
Keepyourbatteriesingoodoperatingconditionasfol-
lows:

1.Keepthebatterieswithafullcharge.
2.Keepthebatteriescleananddry.
3.Keepthebatteriesfastenedintotheirmountingposi-
tion.
4.Ifabatterywillnotkeepacharge,installanewbattery
thathasthespecicationsgiveninthismanual.
5.Whenusingabatterycharger,chargeatthelowest
ratepossibletoreducegasformation.Donotcharge
afrozenbattery.
6.Thebatterieswilldischargewhenthemachineisnot
inuse.Chargethebatterieseverysixweeks.Adis-
chargedbatterycanfreezeatlowambienttempera-
turesandcausebatterydamage.
NOTE:Thefullchargespecicgravitywillusuallybe
shownonthebattery.Coldtemperaturesofapproxi-
mately--17.8°C(0.0°F)willcausefreezingofabattery
withaspecicgravityof1.175.
Batteryterminalsandcables
Thebatterycableterminalsmustbekeptcleanandtight.
Keepyourbatterycableterminalsingoodoperatingcon-
ditionasfollows:
1.Tightenlooseconnectionsbytighteningthenuts(1)
attachingthebatterycablelugstothebatteries.
2.Inspectthebatterycables(2)fordamage.Replace
anybatterycablethathasdamage.
3.Removeallcorrosionwithawirebrush,thenwashwith
aweaksolutionofbakingsodaorammonia.
4.Putsomepetroleumjellyorlightgreaseonterminals
topreventmorecorrosion.
