GS108T Smart Switch Software Administration Manual
Configuring the Switch 4-7
v1.0, May 2007
QoS
There are two possible priority tag settings for the quality of service:
802.1p Based: The eight priority tags specified in IEEE 802.1p (p0 to p7). The QoS setting
enables users to map each of the eight priority levels to one of four internal hardware priority
queues: High, Normal, Low, and Lowest.
DSCP Based: The six most significant bits of the DiffServ field are called the DSCP
(Differentiated Services Code Point). Map the DSCP value to one of the eight priority levels
(p1 to P7) of IEEE 802.1p. Then, assign the IEEE 802.1p priority level to one of the four
internal hardware queues.
The switch empties the four hardware priority queues in order, beginning with the highest priority
queue to the lowest priority queue. Each hardware queue will transmit all of the packets in its
buffer before permitting the next lower priority to transmit its packets.
1. Click QoS in the blue navigation panel.
A screen similar to that shown below appears when IEEE 802.1p Based is selected for the
QoS.
