Eddy Current Magnetic Brake System Troubleshooting
Important:If the eddy current brake control circuit does receive input from the
speed sensor, power is removed from the eddy current brake. Therefore, when it is
necessary to check the resistance or take voltage measurements in the eddy cur-
rent system it will be necessary to slowly turn the input drive flywheel eddy current
ring to ensure that the power time out has not occurred.
1. Remove these rear drive covers: the drive cover access panel, top, left, and right
drive covers (see "Covers and Panels Replacement" on page75).
2. There are four typical symptoms concerning the eddy current system: 1) No res-
istance (pedaling resistance), 2) no resistance shortly after power up, 13) incorrect
resistance, and 4) error 50.
3. If the problem is no resistance, continue procedure.
4. If the problem is no resistance shortly after power up, test the speed sensor, see
"Speed Sensor Troubleshooting" on page225.
5. If the problem is incorrect resistance, continue procedure.
6. If the problem is an error 50, skip to the last step.
7. Set the ON/OFF switch in the “on” position, enter the manual program and set the res-
istance at level 10. Using a DC

voltmeter, check the voltage across the magnet wires
