(J1-1 & J1-2). The voltage should measure approximately 25 Vdc.
If the voltage is missing or significantly low, continue with step 4
8. Set the ON/OFF switch to the “OFF” position. Using an ohmmeter, measure the res-
istance between the magnet wires at the LPCA
2
cable connector, see How to Meas-
ure the Magnet Resistance. The measured resistance should be approximately 90 Ω
to 110 Ω. If the measurement is an open, check the connector connections at the mag-
net and the LPCA and the cable wires between the LPCA and the magnet. The LPCA
to magnet wires must measure less than 1 Ω when measured from end to end with an
ohmmeter. If either faulty magnet or wiring was corrected, verify machine operation
and return to service, see "Operation Verification" on page19.
9. If the magnet and interface wiring are good and there is still no pedal resistance,
either the LPCA or the console UPCA

could be defective. Substitute a known good
LPCA and/or console to check these possible solutions. Test one component at a
time. Replace the defective component. If the good test components did not correct
the problem re-install the original components.
10. If the resistance is greater than normal, the cause could be mechanical rather than
electrical. Set the ON/OFF switch to "OFF" and test the unit by checking all moving
parts in the drive system and stairarms for worn parts that could be “binding”. Replace
the appropriate parts.
11. Set the ON/OFF switch to “ON”, enter the manual program and set the resistance at
level 10. Using a DC voltmeter, check the voltage across the magnet. wires at the
LPCA The voltage should measure approximately 25 Vdc.
12. If the voltage remains significantly high or low, either the LPCA or the console UPCA
could be damaged. Substitute a known good LPCA or console to check the issue.
Test one part at a time. Replace the defective part. If the good part does not correct
the problem re-install the original part.
13. If you have performed all of the above tests and the resistances are still incorrect, call

How to Measure the Eddy Current Magnet Resistance
This procedure provides instructions to measure the eddy current magnet resistance.
1
Printed circuit assembly, generally referred to as either an upper PCA or lower PCA.
2
Lower Printed Circuit Assembly board; also refered to as the Lower PCA or simply as the
lower board. On treadmills, it is the console to base function interface and the motor con-
troller unit (MCU). On self-powered units, it is the lower PCA console to base function inter-
face.
