SECTION 27: PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS InSpec Sampler Controller
27.2 PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD CONFIGURATION
27.2.1 PCB HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
Handle electronic components and printed circuit card assemblies only when you are properly
grounded in an ESD Protected Area (EPA). You are a source of ESD unless you are grounded
properly.
Modern electronic devices are very sensitive to static electric charges.
Use a grounding wrist strap at all times.
Place all electronic components on a static-dissipative surface or in a static-shielded bag when they
are not in the chassis.
Store and transport ESD-sensitive items in static-shielding containers, such as specially marked bags
or boxes.
27.2.2 PCB IDENTIFICATION & DESCRIPTION
There are four Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) held within the main case/body of the unit and
another in the front panel. These are: -
Backplane:
Provides connectivity between the next three PCBs
described.
Power & Relay Outputs:
Converts the AC or DC supply into the various voltages
required throughout the unit and contains the Relay Outputs
Processor & Communications:
Contains the unit’s processor, memory, application software
and communications ports
Field I/O:
Contains the units Analogue I/O, Pulse Input and Digital I/O
circuitry.
Front Panel:
Contains a processor, communications port, LEDs, LCD
and DC power supply conditioning necessary for operation
of the front panel.
