InSpec Sampler Controller SECTION 2: COMMON SOFTWARE FEATURES

2.9.2.2 Date format
There are six available date formats. The user can choose from the following options. Note
that the first three options allow for the year to be entered in full four-digit format. The latter
three options have the year truncated to two digits (i.e., 2006 = 06). These are offered so that if
required the year parameter can be printed out to the application log with even spacing.
DD/MM/YYYY
MM/DD/YYYY
YYYY/MM/DD

2.9.2.3 NTP Setup
The NTP (Network Time Protocol) menu allows you to enable the ability to periodically
update the system time of the InSpec automatically via a reliable internet clock source. This is
useful to maintain an accurate time. All systems lag eventually. Over weeks, months and years
a significant amount of time lag can accrue.
Enable NTP
The first item in the NTP menu asks you if you wish to enable the feature. The options
are simply on or off.
NTP URL
The next item, ‘View IP URL, allows you to view the current IP address of the NTP
server. This is the IP address of the server providing an external time source.
NTP IP ADD
The next item ‘Set NTP Server’ shows the current Server/IP Address of your NTP
server. This entry allows for both text based, and numerical IP Address based entry. By default,
the NTP server is setup to be ‘POOL.NTP.ORG’. This is an internationally recognised free NTP
URL. It consists of a pool of shared NTP servers that allow external devices such as the
InSpec to connect and request a time update. If you would prefer to use your own internal NTP
server then simply enter the IP Address of your local NTP server into this menu item.
NTP Poll Time
The ‘NTP Poll Time’ is the period between NTP updates. I.e., 30 seconds, 60 seconds
etc.
GMT Offset
Depending on your global location, you can adjust for local time by entering the offset
from GMT (+/-) into this menu item.
2.9.3 Email Setup
This section contains the settings required to send email to the specified recipient. The
options available are:
SET SMTP URL
Change the current setting for the SMTP URL.
SMTP IP ADD
View the current IP address for the SMTP URL.
