SECTION 2: COMMON SOFTWARE FEATURES InSpec Sampler Controller
28
Email From Name / Email From Domain & Email To Name / Email To Domain
You must enter the from and to fields for the email. There is no facility to enter the
‘@’ symbol whilst entering email addresses. You will be prompted to enter both a name and a
domain field for the sender and recipient values. E.g., theengineer’ (name) and ‘c-a-
m.com’(domain). The @ symbol is inserted automatically between the two. These fields must
be completed before email can be sent. Of course, the InSpec itself does not process reply
emails. It only sends them. Therefore the from field should be set to either a non-existing
email address or the real email address of someone who will follow up any investigations of
field equipment. The “to email field can be set so that it is sent to an operator or engineer’s
email account. This is a useful feature and can enable them to receive reports and alarm
notifications remotely whilst they are away from the site.
2.9.4 Serial ports,
2 ports (named 2 & 3) are available can be configured to be
Off The port is assigned no task.
A shell for interacting with the controller at the command line. See the section
on the command line for details of how to interact with the shell.
A display This is used to communicate with optional extra InSpec displays,
allowing a maximum of three displays. InSpec displays use a RS422 interface.
A printer A serial printer has a dedicated serial port. Once a printer is selected
to work on the port the user will we asked for the desired baud rate and the
number of lines per page. If a printer is currently configured on any serial port and
the user attempts to initiate another printer on an alternative port a message will
be displayed informing them that a printer is already assigned to a port. A yes/no
confirmation screen will ask them if they wish to move the printer. The InSpec
supports multiple printers on serial ports and Ethernet. The InSpec serial ports
can run a printer using either RS232 or RS422.
Modbus Slave Each instance of Modbus Slave must have its own dedicated
serial port. The InSpec serial ports are able to run Modbus using RS232, RS422
or RS485 interface protocols. Once Modbus is selected to work on the port the
following are standard configuration options when running Modbus over a serial
link
Select RS Mode (This is the electrical characteristic of the serial
communication). The InSpec supports the following internationally
recognised RS modes: RS232, RS422 or RS485.
Node number Modbus slave identifier number on a control system.
Baud rate (the communication rate)
Mode The Protocol Type (RTU or ASCII), Modbus RTU is a compact,
binary representation of the data and uses 8 bits. Modbus ASCII is
human readable, and a more verbose protocol which uses 7 bits.
Parity setup (simple error check in serial data transmission). As per
the Modbus standard, Modbus has 1 stop bit when parity is either odd or
even and 2 stop bits when parity is none.
Modbus String Size Here you can enter the configurable length of
Modbus strings. The default is 20.
Float Mode This implementation of the Modbus protocol supports both
32 bit and 64 bit floating point numbers. Here you can indicate which
method you wish to use.
The float and the long word order Floating point registers and long
registers each require two or more Modbus addresses / consecutive
reads. The order of these addresses may be swapped to communicate
with a customer’s interface.
RTU Timeout If in RTU mode, you are now prompted for the RTU
timeout value (in milliseconds). The default is 40 milliseconds.
