Driving tips/Trailer towing
& Trailer lights
Connection of trailer lights to your vehi-
cles electrical system requires modifica-
tions to the vehicles lighting circuit to
increase its capacity and accommodate
wiring changes. To ensure the trailer lights
are connected properly, we recommend
that you consult your SUBARU dealer.
Check for proper operation of the turn
signals and the brake lights each time you
connect a trailer to your vehicle.
CAUTION
Direct spli cing or other improper
connection of trailer lights may
damage your vehi cles electrical
system and cause a malfunction of
your vehicle lighting system.
& Tires
Make sure that all the tires on your vehicle
are inflated to the pressure under towing
conditions as shown on the tire placard
located under the door striker on the
drivers side. Trailer tire condition, size,
load rating and proper inflation pressure
should be in accordance with the trailer
manufacturers specifications.
WARNING
Never tow a trailer when the tem-
porary spare tire is used. The tem-
porary spare tire is not designed to
sustain the towing load. Use of the
temporary spare tire when towing
can result in failure of the spare tire
and/or less stability of the vehicle
and may lead to an accident.
& Trailer towing tips
WARNING
. Never exceed 80 km/h (50 mph)
or legal towing speed limit,
whichever is lower. Exceeding
the speed limit could cause loss
of vehicle stability and/or could
lead to an accident.
. When towing a trailer, steering,
stability, stopping distance and
braking performance will be dif-
ferent when compared to normal
operation. You shou ld nev er
drive at excessive speeds but
always employ extra caution
when towing a trailer. You should
also keep the following tips in
mind.
CAUTION
Diesel engine models only:
The vehicle speed may decrease
when climbing up a slope or during
continuous high-load driving while
towing a trailer. Therefore, please
use extra caution when climbing up
slopes while towing a trailer (for
example, never attempt to pass
vehicles while driving uphill, etc.).
This control system is necessary for
maintaining the ability of the vehicle
cooling performance and does not
indicate a malfunction. The vehicle
speed performance while towing a
trailer will return to normal when the
load of the vehicle is decreased and
the cooling performance returns to
normal.
