Histogram Scaling group
The Histogram Scaling group contains options for scaling of the selected
histograms for optimal plot visualisation. By default, the software scales the
histogram plots to the maximum value on the plot. The automatic scaling
ignores events in the first and last sixteen channels, unless there are no
events in the remaining channels.
The Histogram Scaling group contains the following option:
Manual Scale: The check box is enabled if at least one histogram plot is
selected. Check the check box to turn off the automatic scaling. For
manual scaling, enter the desired scaling value into the edit field and
press Enter.
Histogram Smoothing group
The purpose of smoothing is to improve the visual display of histograms for
presentation purposes. The underlying data and statistics are not altered.
Smoothing can only be applied to single parameter histograms.
Two methods of smoothing are available: Bin Reduction and Moving
Average. In the Bin Reduction method of smoothing, the values of
consecutive bins are averaged to produce a histogram with a reduced
number of bins. The software implements 4 levels of bin reduction. Each
level has the number of bins displayed on the plot: Level 1 (bin count 1024;
no smoothing), Level 2 (bin count 512), Level 3 (bin count 256), Level 4 (bin
count 128).
In the Moving Average method of smoothing, the average value of a number
of consecutive bins (window size) of the raw histogram is used in the first bin
in the window. This is repeated for the next bin until the whole histogram has
been covered. The process can be repeated a number of times to produce
an increasingly smoothed graph. There are ten levels of smoothing available
by this method. The level 1 setting is the same as no smoothing.
The Histogram Smoothing group contains the following options:
Histogram Smoothing: The button is enabled when one or more single
parameter plots are selected. The button displays the currently active
smoothing method. To change the smoothing method, click the arrow to
open the drop-down list and select the desired option (none, bin
reduction, moving average). The selected method is applied to all
currently selected plots. Plot smoothing is displayed on the reports, print
preview and printout. The smoothing settings are saved as part of the
Workspace whenever the Workspace or the Playlist are saved. Applying
smoothing to plots does not affect statistical results.
