Master/Slave Operation
Note: This function is only available on units specially configured for master/slave
operation at the factory and equipped with a master/slave Host card.
Up to six Pinnacle Plus+ power supplies may be configured to operate in a master/
slave system, allowing you to increase your total system power up to 60 kW. Any
Pinnacle Plus+ unit that features the master/slave Host card can function as either a
master unit or a slave unit. (See Figure 5-7 on page 5-12 for an illustration of the
master/slave Host card.)
Note: Pinnacle Plus+ units without a master/slave Host card cannot function as a
master or slave.
Note: When running a master/slave system in voltage regulation, be aware that the
Pinnacle Plus+ units may not share current or power.
Host Port Card (Master/Slave Operation)
The master/slave card is located near the top left side of the unit's rear panel (when
facing the rear panel). The master/slave Host card includes three ports: a 9-pin,
female, subminiature-D serial communications port for external serial control, and
two modular ports (P1 and P2) for connecting master and slave units with the master/
slave cable (see Figure 5-7 on page 5-12).
Note: See “Host Port Connector” in Chapter 4 for pin and signal descriptions for the
9-pin Host port connector.
The P1 and P2 molded-plug ports are used to connect (daisy-chain) a master unit to a
slave unit and a slave unit to another slave unit.
Note: The Master/Slave Pulse port must also be connected between master and slave
units.
The Host card also includes a master/slave (MSTR/SLV) switch. This switch is used
to indicate whether the supply is functioning as a master, stand-alone, or slave unit.
