Depending on the cable length and the cathode size, certain frequencies may cause
resonance with the pulsing frequency. This resonance can cause the Pinnacle
Plus+ supply to respond to a false arc or overcurrent event in excess. To avoid this
problem, use a scope to make sure that the voltage does not ring back below the
arc trip level after the cathode voltage is applied. Changing the frequency, output
power cable length, and/or the reverse time settings can solve this problem.
If you cannot reach a certain output power, increased reverse time will increase
the output power at a given maximum DC output voltage shown at the front panel.
LOW POWER OPERATION VERSUS HIGH
POWER OPERATION
The Advanced Capability Pinnacle Plus+ unit features two modes of operation which
allow it to operate effectively in many processes and over a large range of power
settings. To better manage these varied process requirements the Pinnacle Plus+ unit
features two different modes of operation: low power (operation is 1000 W or less),
and high power (power is greater than W).
To select the mode of operation one must set the user power limit based on the
1000 W dividing line. Because the unit cannot switch operation between the two
modes while delivering power, selecting the power limit (and hence operation mode)
is not allowed when the output is on.
The specific conditions under which the operation modes differ are:
Initial output on or ignition
Arc shutdown extinguishing the plasma
Open load/ circuit condition at output
Additionally, the operational mode voltage limits are altered slightly should you select
voltage as the mode of regulation.
Low Power Operation
For low power operation the power limit must be set to 1000 W or less, and the
following is true:
