Flexible NSAP address fields
The flexible NSAP address has the following fields:
Field Function It Provides
Area Address Has two provisionable parts:
• AFI (Authority and Format Identifier) field, which may vary between 10
and 99 (HEX).
• Flexible part, which may vary from 0 to 12 bytes.
System Identifier
(SID)
Identifies the node. In most network element types, the Ethernet address is
copied into the SID address field and this makes the NSAP address unique
throughout the DCN.
Selector (Sel) Set to 01 (HEX) for the network elements.
In this way, the flexible NSAP address can vary from 8 to 20 bytes.
Notice that the flexible NSAP address format can be used to derive the other formats.
