Service awareness is the ability to discriminate the different traffic types carried over the
converged Ethernet stream. The traffic flow can be composed of E1/DS1, E3/DS3 and/or IP/
Ethernet (as applicable for the area), coming from different sources, and therefore having
different requirements.
Service awareness is what allows identification of the traffic types, and in case of the non-
real-time variable bit rate service, always optimization of the band with overbooking of the
radio scarce resource.
