Variableperiodicmaintenance
Someworkingenvironmentsrequirethatmaintenancebeperformedmorefrequently.Dust,dirt,moisture,extremehot
orcold,andmanyotherfactorsshouldbetakenintoconsiderationwhenservicingthemachine.Certainequipmentor
auxiliarytoolsmaycausemorestressonhydraulics,drivetrain,engines,orlters.Thefollowingmaintenanceshould
beperformedonregularschedules,butoftenneedspecialattentionwhenconditionsrequire.
Engineairlter
Replacetheprimaryelementiftheairlterindicatorlampilluminates.
Inspectthelterfordamage.Wipeoffthelterseal,andcleanalldustfromaircleanerhousing.Neverusewaterto
cleantheprimarylter.Forcompleteinformationseethemaintenancechartonpage7-25andairlterreplacement
onpage7-90inthischapter.
Track
Cleanthetracksandundercarriageasrequiredorattheendoftheworkshift.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface
topreventdistortionofthetrackseals.Ifthetemperatureiscold,parkthemachineonasurfacethatwillnotfreeze
tothetrackshoes.Checkthetracktensionfrequentlywhenyouoperate.Checkthetracktensionmoreoftenwhen
workinginextremeconditions.Whenmaterialpacksandcollectsontheundercarriage,thetracksmaybecometoo
tight.Correcttrackadjustmentisthemostimportantfactorthathelpstocontrolundercarriagewear.
Radiator
Checkthemachinefordebris,especiallyaroundtheengineareaandradiator.Makesuretheseareasareclean.
Checkthelevelofthecoolanttank.
Fuelprelter
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Coldtemperaturescancausewatertocollectinthefueltank.Checktherst
stagefuellterforwater.Drainanysedimentand/orwaterthatcollectsinthefuelsystem.Thisshouldbeaperiodic
maintenanceproceduredependentuponclimateanduseconditions.
Fuses
Ifafuseisdefective,alwaysreplaceitwithafuseofthecorrectamperage.
NOTE:Ifafuseblows,replaceitatonce.Locatetheproblemandifitreoccurs,haveitcheckedbyaservicetech-
nician.
