4-OPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS
Coldtemperatureoperation
Operatingincoldclimateconditions
Coldweatherconditionsrequirespecialoperatingprocedures.Themachinewillrequirespecialstartup,warmup,
andmaintenanceproceduresforthebestperformance.Propercoldweathermaintenancewillextendtheservicelife
ofthemachine.
Batteries
Cleanthebatteriesandmakesuretheyareatfullcharge.Incoldconditions,itisimportanttorunthemachinelong
enoughtoreturnthechargelostbystarting.Inmostcoldconditions,runthemachineforabout10min.Inextreme
coldconditions,runthemachinefor30min.
NOTE:Afullychargedbatteryat-17°C(1.4°F)hasonly40%ofthenormalstartingpower.At-29°C(-20.2°F)the
batteryhasonly18%.
Inspectthebatterycablesandterminals.Cleantheterminals,andapplyelectricalterminalsealerstopreventcorro-
sion.Seeyourauthorizeddealer.
Ifyouaddwatertothebatteriesandthetemperatureisbelow0°C(32.0°F),chargethebatteriesorruntheengine
forapproximately2h.Thiswillpreventbatteryfreezing.
Lubricants
Followtherecommendedoilandlterservicefortheengineandhydraulicsystem.Usethecorrectviscosityoilineach
componentfortheambienttemperature.Forextremecoldconditions,contactyourauthorizeddealerforalternative
lubricantsforthehydraulicandtransmissionsystems.
Fuel
Checkwithyourfuelsupplierforthecorrectcoldweatherfuel.Waxparticlesinthefuellterswillreduceengine
power.Somecoldweatherfuelblendsresultinlowerenginepower.
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Coldtemperaturescancausecondensationtoforminthefueltank.Checkand
drainthefuelprelterandfueltankforwaterasrequired.
DieselExhaustFluid(DEF)
Duringcoldweatherconditions,itisnormalfortheDEFtofreezeinsidethetank.Yourmachineisequippedwithan
internaltankheatertothawfrozenDEF.YourmachinewillstillfunctionuntiltheDEFbeginstoow.TheSelective
CatalyticReduction(SCR)systemwillreturntonormalfunctiononcetheDEFbeginstoow.TheDEFlevelgauge
maynotdisplayanaccurateleveluntilthetankthawscompletely.
NOTE:Donotuseananti-gellingorfreezepointimproverinyourDEF .The32.5%solutionisspecicallydesigned
toprovidetheoptimumNO

reductionproperties.AnyfurtherblendingoradjustingoftheDEFmixturewilllessenits
abilitytoperformcorrectlyandmaycausedamagetotheSCRcomponents.
Coolingsystem
Checkthecoolantmixturebeforeoperatingincoldtemperatures.Amixtureof50%ethyleneglycolor50%OAT
coolantand50%watermustbeused.Thismixtureisusedifthelowestambienttemperatureis-37°C(-34°F).If
theambienttemperatureislower,adjustthemixture.UseethyleneglycolorOATcoolantandwaterinthemachine
duringallseasons.Dependingonthedateofmanufacture,themachinecouldhaveeithercoolanttype.Machines
withOATcoolantwillhaveadecalnearthelllocation.NevermixconventionalcoolantwithOATcoolant.Seepage
