Solving Battery and Battery Gauge Problems

Problem Possible Cause Solution
While the battery
power light or the
MultiBay drive light
is blinking, the
computer beeps
twice and the
power/suspend light
begins blinking.
Hibernation has been
turned off, and the
computer has entered
a critical low-battery
condition.
To avoid losing unsaved
work, immediately
connect the computer to
an external power
source or replace the
battery pack.
Battery power light
or MultiBay drive
light blinks to
indicate a low-
battery condition, but
computer does
not beep.
Low-battery warning
beeps have been
disabled.
System beeps have
been turned down
too low.
Enable low-battery
warning beeps on
Battery Conservation
Settings tab in Power
Properties.
Press Fn+F5, then press
the right cursor key
to increase system
beeps volume.
Battery light or
MultiBay drive light
does not turn on to
indicate battery pack
is charging.
Battery pack is
already fully charged.
Battery pack was
exposed to
temperature extremes
No action is necessary.
Allow time for battery pack
to return to room
temperature.
Battery pack is at the
end of its life.
Replace the
battery pack.
Battery pack is
warm to the touch
after charging.
Warming occurs due
to charging.
No action is required.
Every time the
computer is turned
on, the date and
time have to be set.
Auxiliary battery
charge is low because
the computer was not
connected to a power
source for an
extended time period.
Connect the computer to
an external power source
for approximately 24
hours to fully charge the
auxiliary battery.
Auxiliary battery is at
the end of its life.
Contact your Compaq
authorized service
provider to replace the
auxiliary battery.
