3-8 Using the Keyboard

Unassigning a Programmable Key
To remove an assignment from a programmable key:
1. Click Start

double-click the
Keyboard icon (Windows 95) or the Programmable Key icon
(Windows NT)

Programmable Keys tab.
2. Click the button next to the number of the programmable key
you want to unassign.
NOTE:
If you want to unassign the key in other than the current
scheme, check Show Advanced Options and select the scheme
from the drop down list in the Scheme box.
3. Ensure that Show Advanced Options is not checked.
4. Click the Assign button, select Unassigned from the drop
down list, then click the OK button beneath the list. The word
“Unassigned” appears next to the button of the programmable
key.
5. Click OK to save the unassignment and close Keyboard
Properties.
If you press the programmable key you just unassigned, the
Keyboard Properties dialog box appears.
Viewing Programmable Key Assignments
You can view the key assignments in the current scheme with one
click.
To enable this convenience, you must first place the key
assignments icon in the system tray on the Windows taskbar.
NOTE:
The system tray is the box, usually containing the time of
day, in the lower right corner of the Windows taskbar.
To place the key assignments icon in the system tray:
1. Click Start

double-click the
Keyboard icon (Windows 95) or the Programmable Key icon
(Windows NT)

Programmable Keys tab.
2. Place a check in the Show Key Assignments in the System
Tray checkbox.
3. Click OK to save your preference and close Keyboard
Properties.
The key assignments icon appears in the system tray. Click the
icon to view the key assignments in the current scheme.
