Using Boot Management
Changing the Boot Sequence
The factory-default boot sequence is the first bootable CD-ROM,
the first bootable diskette, then the first bootable hard drive. A
bootable drive contains files needed by the computer to start and
operate properly. The bootable drive can be in the computer, or,
when the computer is docked, in an optional ArmadaStation or
Armada MiniStation EX.
Boot Management in Computer Setup provides a way to change
the default boot order. To view or change Boot Management
settings, turn on or restart the computer and press
F10
when the
cursor appears upper right on the screen. Select Computer Setup
ÆSystem FeaturesÆBoot Management, then the Properties or
MultiBoot tab.
On the Properties tab, you can disable the diskette boot ability. On
the MultiBoot tab, you can enable MultiBoot and specify by bay
the sequence you want the computer to follow when searching for
a bootable drive.
When MultiBoot is enabled, the default boot order by bay is:
First Computer MultiBay
Second Computer hard drive bay
Third Left bay in ArmadaStation or Armada MiniStation EX
Fourth Right bay in ArmadaStation
To change the MultiBoot sequence, select a bay, move it up or
down the list, and click OK.
When the computer restarts and searches for a bootable drive, it
considers only the first drive of each type. For example, in the
default MultiBoot sequence, the computer will not start from a
bootable hard drive in an ArmadaStation if a non-bootable hard
drive is in the computer MultiBay.
IMPORTANT:
Be aware that if you change the boot order, you also
change the logical drive designations. For example, if you boot
from a hard drive in the ArmadaStation, it becomes drive C, and
the computer hard drive becomes drive D (and E if partitioned).
Similarly, if you boot from a diskette drive in an Armada
MiniStation EX, it becomes drive A, and the computer diskette
drive becomes drive B.
