Safety
The series 576W global modem is intended for use with the
Compaq 2890 series of computers. For the purposes of New
Zealand Telecom approval, the Compaq series 576W global
modem is classified as a host-independent product.
The following information characterizes the requirements of the
host system in order to maintain the reliable use of the Compaq
series 576W global modem:
■
The Compaq series 576W voice/fax modem requires a
power supply voltage of 5 VDC ±5%, 12 VDC ±5%,
or -12 VDC ±5%.
■
The host computer must provide a maximum of 950 mW from
the +5 VDC power supply and a maximum of 50mW from the
-12 VDC power supply and the +12 VDC power supply.
■
The host apparatus must provide adequate power for the
modem and any other auxiliary apparatus drawing power
from it.
■
For reasons of electrical safety, the computer which houses
this voice/fax modem card must be earthed. The operation of
this card in a computer which is not earthed may negate the
user’s rights under the Telecom terms of service.
■
The computer which houses this voice/fax modem card is
classified as a computer rather than a communications
terminal. As with all mains powered electrical equipment,
there is a legal requirement for it to meet the requirements of
the NZ Wiring Regulations. It is the responsibility of the
computer supplier rather than the Telepermit System to ensure
that these requirements are met.

Failure to provide modem user's instructions with the host
computer will INVALIDATE the modem approval.
