Chapter 9: Maintenance
9.1 Cleaning Instructions for Optics
Major contamination and improper cleaning of optics and lenses can impact
the scanning quality. Major damage or wear could require a complete
replacement of the part.
9.1.1 What's needed
NOTICE
Damage or wear of the scanner‘s mirrors and lenses
• To avoid unnecessary damage or wear, clean the optics
only if the degree of contamination requires cleaning for
proper function, for example, if an increase in noise or a
decrease of the scan range is observed. Major
contamination can impact the scanning quality. In this case,
proper cleaning of the outer optics (rotating mirror module
and/or sensor cover glass) is recommended.
• In either case, cleaning must be performed by trained
personnel only, as self-caused damages can result in a
complete replacement of the part at the expense of the
customer. In case of any doubts, please contact the
customer service at FARO (See
Technical Support on
page 131.).
• Do not touch the optical surfaces with bare hands or
laboratory gloves if possible.
• We recommend using latex gloves. If you are suffering
from latex allergies please use gloves that are suitable for
you. Lightly rub the gloves after taking them off with
laboratory cloths. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove grease
and dirt.
• Do not touch the mirror with tweezers or forceps.
• Use only acetone-free cleaning fluids.
